Description
A survey of American poetry in the second half of the Twentieth Century, focusing on Lowell, Bishop, the "confessional" poets, the Beats, political poetry, the "deep image" school, and the beginnings of the late Twentieth-Century avant-garde.
Grading
Two four-page papers (30% each); final exam (40%).
