Class Information
Instructor:

Time:

Description
English 153--“London Theatre Live!”--is part of a 6-unit Study Abroad course (including 2 units of English 198 “Group Study). It will take place mainly in London (from December 16 to 30, 2015, when we will see at least six plays in different theatres), preceded by six seminar meetings during fall quarter 2015. For details--about costs, credits, etc.--see the Study Abroad website for the course here:

Program Overview:
For live theater, there’s no place like London, home to the National Theatre, Shakespeare’s Globe, the Old Vic, and the many West End venues. London has also been the center of British movie production for 120 years.
We’ll begin with seminars every other week on campus during fall quarter (six meetings in all), when we’ll get to know London via film and read about London theaters and the plays we’ll see. Then we’ll travel to London for two weeks and attend six or more live theater performances. We won’t know exactly which plays we’ll see until schedules are finalized in late spring, but we’ll likely see work at the Globe’s new Wanamaker Playhouse, the National Theatre, a West End venue, and at the Almeida or Hampstead Theatre in the boroughs. We’ll also plan to catch a Christmas “pantomime” musical comedy and a film screening at the BFI Southbank.
In London we’ll have class three or four mornings a week. We’ll take tours of central London, the West End and its theaters, and Shakespeare’s Globe. But you’ll also have days and nights to explore London on your own.
