Description

This course in the pedagogy of Creative Writing is designed for first year M.A. students in Literature and Creative Writing to prepare them for teaching English 5, an introductory workshop course. We will talk about practical matters related to teaching, including classroom management, writing exercises, assessment, workshop dynamics, and syllabus preparation. Guest speakers will aid our understanding of these basic topics. There will be a special focus on cultivating and curating good seminar conversations, and substantial time devoted to an understanding of teaching as its own craft.

Grading

Grading will be based on class participation and preparation, the completion of a syllabus for English 5 (poetry, nonfiction, or fiction), and a short paper.
