Our graduate programs offer courses in all the traditional historical periods of English and American literature. The department has particular strengths in four areas: Gender Studies, Literature and the Environment, Literary History and Theory. Distinguished faculty offer a wide variety of courses and seminars, and we encourage graduate students to develop their own specialized courses of study under the direction of individual faculty members.

The English department resides in Voorhies Hall located at the corner of 1st and A Streets.
