Meet Our Faculty - Matthew Stratton

Matthew Stratton discusses the ways that Americans understand irony as a crucial component of thinking, speaking and writing: focusing on irony helps us to understand how literature is not just a pleasurable diversion from "real life" but can serve as "equipment for living" thoughtful, active, engaged lives. More than just the topic of his scholarship, the ability to think, speak, and write in more precise and powerfully analytical ways is a lifelong benefit that comes with the formal study of literature and language, which makes teaching and learning in the English Department so rewarding.
