Biography:
Julia Halprin Jackson's fiction, nonfiction, and poetry has appeared in anthologies by Beyond Words Publishing, SMITH Mag, Scribes Valley Publishing, the American Diabetes Association, Flatmancrooked, and literary journals such as California Northern, Sacramento News & Review, sPARKLE n' bLINK, Fourteen Hills, Catalyst and Spectrum. Her radio work includes internships at KALW News and KQED’s Forum with Michael Krasny in San Francisco. She has written for Eduify, Inc., SMITH Mag, and San Francisco State University’s College of Creative Arts. Some of her flash fiction has been featured at the Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center's Second Saturday art shows. Julia received a GSA Travel Award for summer 2011 to attend the Napa Valley Writer's Workshop, as well as 2011 Graduate Student Fellowship to attend the Tomales Bay Writers' Workshop.
During the 2010-2011 school year, Julia worked as as a graduate student researcher in Dr. Suad Joseph's lab through the UC Davis Anthropology Department. Dr. Joseph is the General Editor of the Encyclopedia of Women and Islamic Culture, a six-volume print encyclopedia with accompanying online supplements.
She taught ENL 5F: Introduction to Writing Fiction in fall 2011 and winter 2012. She currently is the teaching assistant for English 147: American Literatures 1945-present, taught by Professor Desiree Martin.
