Time:

Description
We will attempt, in this course, to learn about American Literature in the period 1900-1945. Rather than reading widely and without much depth, we will read only four books from the period (one of which is contained in the Reader), but we will read those books very closely. Prior to reading those four books, we will read a few texts in order to create a sense of con-text. Most classes will feature both lecture and discussion.
Grading
Your grade will be arrived at by way of:
weekly writing assignments make up 40%;
one 6-page-minimum essay makes up 30%;
Final Exam makes up 30%.
** Note: grade may also be affected by absences (see Attendance above).
