Description

This course is intended for 2016-17 instructors of English 3. We will emphasize hands-on practice as we consider the formal vocabulary and methods of close reading appropriate for teaching narrative, drama, and poetry; discuss various strategies for explicating and discussing literary texts in a class of diverse students; cover means of integrating writing instruction with literary analysis; and grapple with the challenges and opportunities posed by digitization and the globalized classroom. In addition to participating in class discussions and exercises, students will visit and evaluate one of the ENL 3 sections being taught during the term and will generate a course syllabus.
