Time:

Description
Cultural Studies Methods for Literary Critics: This proseminar will expose us to methodological descriptions, examples, and practical applications of methods from the qualitative social sciences and other disciplines which have been central to Cultural Studies, with an eye for how literary critics in particular might use them. We will explore participant observations and interviews of spectators; the case study method; and visual cultural analysis. We will also explore the ethics of working with people. Meeting every other week starting on April 4, we will discuss a short reading example for each method, as well as the results of our attempts to practice each method.
Grading
Grading is Pass/Fail. To pass, students must attend 4 out of the 5 sessions at minimum and complete all assignments.
