Description
Paul Celan's poems have impacted many poets writing in English--indeed, many poets writing in many tongues. This is usually not because said poets can read German; it is usually because translation has occurred. You do not need to know any German for this course, as we will be reading translations of the poems in English. If you do know German, of course, that's great! We will spend most of our time in the class doing close readings of poems in English. The goal is to develop your ability to hear Celan's poems.
