Description

This class is designed to introduce students to Young Adult Literature that represents an array of voices and points of view. Students will be asked to think about historical context and genre, both in how adolescent literature is a genre and how it incorporates other genres such as dystopia, romance, horror, etc. There will be a focus on engaging with a critical framework in order to dissect the paradoxes that exist within adolescent literature. Texts include Forever by Judy Blume, The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger, King Dork by Frank Portman, Boy Meets Boy by David Leviathan, Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Clause, Feed by MT Anderson, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, and I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L. Sanchez.
