Description

This course will examine the history and development of English grammar in order to help students understand how grammar functions in the present. Rather than simply memorizing a set of prescriptive rules for language function, we will consider how such rules develop, how they change and break over time, and how phenomena and principles related to grammar both contribute to and challenge the power of language.
