Description
In this course, students will read and respond to the assigned texts and various other short stories via writing workshops and critical sessions devoted to some of the leading novelists and short story writers of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, among whom Yukio Mishima, Ismail Kadare, Gwendolyn Brooks and Deepak Unnikrishnan. Students will learn how to compose fiction in a variety of styles and they will be expected to compose two short stories (one short and one long) which will be workshopped in class.
Grading
Fiction Portfolio (two short stories): 50%
Participation (based on class discussions): 30%
Attendance (including workshop conduct): 20%
