Description
This course is intended for instructors who will be teaching English 3 and English 3A for the first time in 2023-24. We will emphasize hands-on pedagogical practice as we consider the formal vocabulary and methods of close reading appropriate for teaching critical writing through analysis of poetry, fiction, and drama. We will approach various strategies for explicating, discussing, writing about, and assessing cogent arguments about literary texts in a class of diverse students. In addition to attending the seminar, students will visit and evaluate one of the ENL 3 sections being taught during the term and will generate a course syllabus for ENL 3.
