Meet Ariana Green: a 3rd year English (Literature, Criticism, and Theory emphasis) & Design double major, graduating a year early.

What is the most memorable English class you've taken at UC Davis? Why?

Love and Desire in Contemporary American Poetry taught by Dr. Kitses was my most memorable English class. It was the only class where the readings genuinely resonated with me. I felt that the themes and topics we discussed are still prevalent in current day society. Dr. Kitses was wonderful and made the class intriguing and welcoming.

What essay or project are you most excited about right now? Why?

Currently, I am working on an essay for my Shakespeare class which is taught by Professor Dolan. I am writing about the play, "Much Ado About Nothing" and I am particularly enjoying the comedy that is integrated within the play.

What is your favorite book/author? Why?

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman is my favorite book and author. Personally, this book feels nostalgic and the writing style is poetic which mesmerized me. I also loved the magical realism elements in the story. It made me feel like I was reading a children's book written for adults.

Why did you decide to major in English?

I have grown up reading books and poetry, and I have always enjoyed listening, learning, and discussing stories. Therefore, my decision to become an english major is ingrained in my love for literature and poetry.

What is something you want other English majors to know about you or your work?

I feel that not all English majors have to seek work within the realm of English. I am also a design major and my plans after graduation is to get involved in the graphic design industry. I love storytelling through visuals, and design and English meet in perfect unison to make me feel creatively fulfilled.
