English 235 - Fall, 2017
Theory of Fiction
Class Information
Instructor:
Townsend, Jacinda
CRN:
62689
Time:
R 3:10-6:00
Location:
120 Voorhies
Description
Microfiction and magical realism are often dismissed in workshop due to unwarranted bias against anything but traditional-length fiction and realism. This quarter, we will give such forays into the unusual the tough love that they deserve, and nurture these evolutions toward the very short, and the worlds of absurdism, surrealism, magical realism, and fabulism.
Grading
I am expecting six pieces from each student, whether they take the form of analyses or stories/scenes. Grading will be based on the pieces as well as on class participation.
