Description
This course explores the formal, generic, and cultural diversity Anglophone literature from 1700-1900. It will provide preparation for the rigors of undergraduate coursework in English by familiarizing you with major literary trends and forms and by equipping you with the skills needed for advanced scholarship. We will explore how literary texts interact with global developments in domains such as politics, governance, imperialism, sexuality, gender, class, capitalism, mass readership, science, religion, and secularism. A writing- and reading-intensive course, 10B will foster the historically attuned interpretative and writing skills needed for upper-division English studies.
