Description
The US born (wannabe British) writer Henry James famously used the term 'large, loose, baggy monsters' to describe the sprawling novels of the 19th century; in this course, we'll get to know five of the most delightful of those monsters, taking in the entertaining vastness they offered up to their readers of the 19th century, and addressing the many significant historical and cultural issues they highlight for 21st century readers and scholars.
