Literary Magazines

These magazines offer a space for our students (and others in the community) to publish their writing.

Huizache - The Magazine of a New America:

Since 2011, Huizache has been a leading venue for Latinx literature and art, publishing work by award-winning writers as well as emerging voices. Founded by Dagoberto Gilb, the magazine emphasizes innovative, high-quality prose and poetry that challenge conventional expectations of Latinx literature.

Over its first decade, Huizache featured influential writers across generations alongside new authors who have gone on to publish widely recognized work. While centered on Latinx literature, the magazine also includes writers from diverse backgrounds, reflecting an expansive and inclusive editorial vision.

Now published in El Paso, Texas, Huizache continues to champion voices that are often overlooked, documenting a vibrant and enduring literary tradition.

Open Ceilings (currently closed)

Established in 2018, Open Ceilings is an undergraduate-run literary magazine specifically dedicated to creative writing. As a semiannual publication released in the fall and spring of each year, Open Ceilings publishes short fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, artwork, and photography. We aim to give the arts at UC Davis a consistent platform for representation and produce collections our institution can be proud of.
