Upper Division Writing Requirement
All students must meet the Upper Division Writing Requirement by coursework or by exam. See below for a list of English, Comparative Literature, and UWP upper-division courses that may satisfy this requirement as well as a link to the Composition Exam. Please note that further courses may be added to this list soon, so keep checking back. 

Students must have completed 84 units for the course to count towards the upper division English composition requirement.

  • Student Academic Assistance & Tutoring Centers: offers one-on-one tutoring and support https://tutoring.ucdavis.edu/

Health and Mental Health Care

  • UCD Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS): offers crisis and ongoing counseling; individual and groups; suicide prevention; sexual health, etc.  Counseling referrals from SHCS can be made to a Sacramento location.  https://shcs.ucdavis.edu/counseling-services
  • Activities & Rec Center (The ARC): Free for students during academic year.https://campusrecreation.ucdavis.edu/arc
  • Campus Recreation: Aquatics, Craft Center, ARC classes, sports clubs, etc.
  • Aggie Mental Health Help us continue to build awareness about mental health resources for students. The campaign includes the Aggie Mental Health website and our Aggie Mental Health Ambassador team who provide peer-to-peer support. We also wanted to highlight the Academics and Mental Health page, which is meant to help students who may be struggling academically or mentally navigate the university system.

    Well Being Resources Presentation

    To help campus colleagues who work directly with students, we have created a resource slide deck, “Well-Being at UC Davis” that highlights the many departments and programs available to assist students navigate campus life. Where appropriate, please use these slides (or any of the content) in your courses or class materials.

    Health Equity Fund Grants: The application for the grants has reopened. Students can apply for Health Equity Fund grants to reimburse them for significant out-of-pocket expenses (between $50 to $2,500) related to accessing physical or mental healthcare.

    Free Speech Website

    Visit the UC Davis Free Speech website to learn about the First Amendment at a public institution, how to exercise your rights within the law and campus policies and ways to get support. As we engage with one another as members of our campus community, this resource is meant to help staff, faculty and students understand individual rights and responsibilities within the context of law, policy and shared community expectations.  

    Red Folder Refresh

    The Red Folder serves as a quick reference guide to help staff, faculty and students connect a student in distress with health (mental and physical) and safety resources. Please share this resource with your teams to ensure that anyone who might encounter a student in distress can quickly provide support.
