Biography:

In addition to numerous articles, Professor Abbott is the author of a recent book  Rhetoric in the New World and editor of Landmark Essays in Renaissance Rhetoric. Before coming to UC Davis, Professor Abbott taught at UC Santa Barbara, Indiana University, and Humboldt State. Professor Abbott joined the UC Davis faculty as Assistant Professor in 1982 and advanced to Associate Professor with the Department of Rhetoric and Communication in 1988. He is now a  Professor for the Department of English as well as the Department of Spanish and Classics. His areas of research and teaching include courses in Classical Rhetoric, Argumentation and Debate,the Social Influence of Speech, Contemporary Rhetorical Theory, and the History of Rhetoric.
