Contest / EligibilityDeadline
Deirdre Hackett Endowment for Undergraduate Experiential Learning04/15/25 @ 12:00pm

UCD Undergraduates full time registered student at the time of the award.

The Deirdre Hackett Endowment was established in 2021 in memory of Deirdre Hackett, an English major from the class of 1987 who also pursued graduate studies in English at UC Davis. She was an avid reader with a particular fondness for poetry whose passion for books led her to a career in publishing. She passed away in 2021 and her son established this fund in her honor to support graduate and undergraduate experiential learning beyond the classroom, in hopes that it will serve as her legacy by encouraging students to explore ways to find their passions and enhance their education.

UC Davis graduate students in English and undergraduate English majors are invited to apply to the Deirdre Hackett endowment for funds to support an activity that complements or contributes to their education as readers and writers, such as attendance at a workshop, participation in a conference, research travel, or specialized training in a related area. The awards this spring are for activities to be pursued any time up through April 2024. This competition will be run yearly in the spring.

*Applications:*
Applicants should submit a maximum 500-word account of their proposed activity: what it is, when it will take place, and its benefit to their learning. They should also include a brief budget indicating how the funds would support this opportunity. The deadline is *Monday, April 10, 2025. *Winners will be asked, by the end of the quarter (or summer) in which the activity is completed, to submit a brief account of their experience to be shared with the donor.
