JOSHUA CLOVER (1962-2025) taught poetry and critical theory in the Departments of English and Comparative Literature at UC Davis from 2003 until his death in 2025. Professor Clover published three books of poetry—Madonna Anno Domini (1997), The Totality for Kids (2006), and Red Epic (2015)—as well as a number of works of criticism and critical theory, including 1989 (2009), Riot. Strike. Riot: the New Era of Uprisings (2016), and Roadrunner (2021). His research appeared in Representations, Critical Inquiry, PMLA, and elsewhere. His writing has been translated into a dozen languages and appears in many anthologies, including the Norton Introduction to Literature. He served as the Director of the Marxist Institute for Research and held roles as a Visiting Professor at the University of Paris and Affiliated Professor at the University of Copenhagen.
