Professor Elizabeth Freeman

Beth

We are deeply saddened by the recent death of Professor Elizabeth Freeman. Beth was a beloved colleague and mentor to fellow faculty and to generations of undergraduate and graduate students. Her transformative teaching and mentoring, her wise counsel on departmental matters, her legendary kindness and generosity, and her sense of humor and perspective will all be tremendously missed. A brief overview of her career can be seen here, though no summary can convey the impact that her work has had and will continue to have in the fields of American literature, gender and sexuality studies, and temporality studies, or the gap that she leaves in the lives of so many who loved and admired her.
